L'Alpage des Fermes de Marie
A simply magical table d’hôte in a mountain pasture
The Alpage des Fermes de Marie has preserved the hardworking spirit of the farmers who used to bring their animals up to the high mountain pastures to graze in times gone by. Refurbished with unpolished, authentic materials that outlast all seasons, this mountain pasture chalet successfully recreates an authentic atmosphere and a timeless history. The rudimentary decoration has nothing of the superficial or staged about it: the patina acquired over the years bears witness to the fact! This table d’hôtes, reserved exclusively for guests immediately lends itself to friendly cheer and shared moments, in this charming atmosphere heightened by the authenticity and beauty of the setting, to discover during summer and fall.
Open on Saturday lunch for fall week-ends, Wednesday lunch and Friday dinner during summer.
Another day, another ambiance. In summer, Friday nights are host to the legendary "Alpage des Etoiles", the Alpage by Starglight. You have the choice between a ride up the mountain in a Landrover or hike with a headlamp, accompanied by an accomplished guide. Watching the stars shine in the night is still the most beautiful of shows. Formerly, the shepherds stayed here when they brought their animals out to pasture. All summer, they ate a simple diet of bread and smoked charcuterie, with only the constellations and their animals for company. When you step across the threshold of this mountain cabin, you have the impression you are stepping straight into the world of Heidi. The decor remains rustic and quaint. The racks once used to store hay for the cows recall the former purpose of the place. A very long time ago here, there was an artisanal cheese production. The authenticity can also be found in the cuisine. The chef prepares traditional regional specialties, cooked in the large fireplace: Stone soup, roass over open fire, crozets pasta with country cheeses, and for dessert traditional berry soup, rhubarb pie and meringue cream. The style is casual. The spirit of the place is too. Just before midnight, everyone heads back down to the hotel, either on foot with a headlamp, or aboard an all-terrain vehicle, according to their wishes. The Alpage becomes one of your best kept secrets in the Alps.
