The Alpage of Les Fermes de Marie
A magical table d’hôtes
Every summer, on the terrace of the Alpage, Les Fermes de Marie’s high mountain cabin, a table is readied in the heart of alpine pastures, where it awaits the privileged guests of Maisons &Hotels Sibuet staying in Megève. Head out from the center of Megève for a breathtaking escape. Expect a good hour's walk from the parking lot of the Cote 2000. Taking forest roads in the shade of large trees, in the middle of a pasture, you discover a rustic cabin, set in verdant nature, as your gaze caresses the tops of the Beaufortain mountain range. To recover from the climb, a house-made raspberry liqueur aperitif awaits. A tradition started by Jocelyne Sibuet, which everyone happily continues. A large table covered with a red and white checked tablecloth is ready on the terrace. Lunch starts with a generous buffet, before taking to the barbecue.
Another day, another ambiance. In summer, Friday nights are host to the legendary "Alpage des Etoiles", the Alpage by Starlight. You have the choice between a ride up the mountain in a Landrover or hike with a headlamp, accompanied by an accomplished guide. Watching the stars shine in the night is still the most beautiful of shows. Formerly, the shepherds stayed here when they brought their animals out to pasture. All summer, they ate a simple diet of bread and smoked charcuterie, with only the constellations and their animals for company. When you step across the threshold of this mountain cabin, you have the impression you are stepping straight into the world of Heidi. The decor remains rustic and quaint. The racks once used to store hay for the cows recall the former purpose of the place. A very long time ago here, there was an artisanal cheese production. The authenticity can also be found in the cuisine. The chef prepares traditional regional specialties, cooked in the large fireplace: Stone soup, roasts over an open fire, crozets pasta with country cheeses, and for dessert traditional berry soup, rhubarb pie and meringue cream. The style is casual. The spirit of the place is too. Just before midnight, everyone heads back down to the hotel, either on foot with a headlamp or aboard an all-terrain vehicle, according to their wishes. The Alpage becomes one of your best-kept secrets in the Alps.
SPORTS & VITALITY: PAMPERING YOURSELF AT LES FERMES DE MARIE
Over the summer at Les Fermes de Marie, you are invited to enjoy yourself while living a healthy lifestyle, pampering your body with massages and eating an adapted diet. To recover your vitality, you can trust the sports coaches on staff who will gladly tailor a program to your goals: outdoor sports activities, group classes (yoga or stretching, tai chi sessions), cooking classes, nutrition counseling, restorative spa treatments… “Our aim is to encourage holiday makers to get some exercise outside in the fresh air, to feel sensations in their body once again and to let go in these majestic surroundings. We go for walks on the trails or sometimes even in the river. In contact with nature, people start using their muscles again, think about breathing and enjoying themselves, making the most of the moment. It’s ideal for forgetting about your stress and being aware of your body,” explains Isabelle Grenier, one of the top health and wellness coaches in the region. In Megève, the mountains and Les Fermes de Marie offer the best setting possible for taking part in outdoor activities and taking care of yourself. Breathe in, breathe out…
In July, it is Jumping International in Megève!
The only even of its kind in the French Alps, the Jumping International – Edmond de Rothschild equestrian competition is very dear to the people of Megève and the riders who compete in it. There’s something special about this event, which can perhaps be put down to the unusual setting, the organizers’ passion and the significant place that horses have always occupied on the streets, meadows and farms of this mountain village. Maisons et Hôtels Sibuet, an event partner, also features in the sporting line-up with the famous Prix des Fermes de Marie, offering a very handsome reward to its winning rider. The art de Vivre of Les Fermes de Marie has taken up residence in the exhibitor’s village, with an ephemeral restaurant, that brings together the savoir-faire of the hotel and that allows it to be at the heart of the event. Both in terms of decoration, cozy as can be, and the service, exceptional as always. All week long, visitors can enjoy slates of locally cured charcuterie, cadoret oysters, tinned mini sardines... And of course the 'signature' dish of Les Fermes de Marie, the black truffle macaroni with Sauget ham. A friendly foodie spot that the Sibuet family creates so well, and that makes you want one thing: to stay at Les Fermes de Marie and to discover this temple of bespoke luxury, as family or as a couple.
